Search Engines: Why People Click

Get to the choppa!More from this Search Engine Marketing Inc, Book I’m reading to get a grasp on the subject:

What people click on:

“…studies show that searchers tend to click a result that contains the exact query words in its title and snippet.”

Why Searchers don’t click results:

Do people usually move to page 2 when they don’t find something? “…7 in 10 searches enter a new query when the top ten results are unappealing.”

Impulse Purchases:

While not directly an SEO datum, I thought this interesting: “User Interface Engineering found that 87 percent of impulse purchases were made by visitors who navigated a site’s product categories, as opposed to using the site’s search engine.” Quite curious indeed. One more reason to perfect the on-page nav on a site.
